I spent two years as an event photographer at my small private college in Lincoln Nebraska. The first year I was the yearbook editor and wanted to get specific shots. The second year I got roped into it because I love photography, a lot of my friends were on the Student Association team, and saying no is a weakness I have. It’s a job that I both loved and hated. I hated it because I was often shooting in the dark (Literally and metaphorically) there were long hours of sorting through hundreds of photos, editing those photos and uploading them. It took up weekends and Saturday nights and spare hours on Sunday. It was exhausting. But I also loved it. I loved it because I got to work closely with some very great people, I got hours and hours and hours of experience shooting all kinds of activities and sports in all kinds of lighting conditions. And occasionally, I would be blessed with a great shot. I have had lots of good shots in my photography career. But This photo slips itself into those photos that I would consider to be great.

There is just too much emotion in this photo to ignore. The subject is forward from the crowd, making her stand out even more, her outfit is unique and eye-catching. The background is blurred just enough to focus on her but not too much to keep the background characters from being noticed. And they are all cheering. It’s one of my favorites.
