Summer in Northern California feels like opening an oven door while baking. It’s almost always sunny and the sky is a cloudless, cornflower blue.
One of the last weekends in California before heading back to the Midwest, Cole’s parents took us to Sonoma. His mom said, “It’s too cute to not go at least once.”
Since somehow I had gotten through an entire year in California without going to a single mission, they took me to the one in town. I took this photo in the courtyard. The gardens were a chaotic growth of cacti and wildflower bushes, and there was a white stucco wall creating the courtyard edges the building didn’t. I love the history of it, the simplicity, the cross standing above the roofline giving the building context and a purpose.
But the real reason I like it is because it makes me happy. It feels like summer. Warm and bright and peaceful.
