Pictured here is my friend Taylor. We are in the jellyfish exhibit in the Monterey Bay aquarium. I love shooting in aquariums because they’re challenging and don’t typically allow for much other than silhouette shots. With any lens that isn’t a fixed lens, I would suggest having a lower shutter speed, (I’m at 1/160 here) as it will be darker, but fixed lens’ are great in low light, allowing me to leave the shutter speed higher for this shot.
I also love how the tank is a natural frame. It’s holding the jellyfish in, making it feel like a painting, and she only stands out in front of the tank, while the rest of her blends into the surrounding darkness of the exhibit room.
It’s a little bluer / brighter than the photos I typically like, or the style I am working towards, but I think that is okay considering that blue is the only color in the photo.
