I want to preface this photo with an apology of not updating this on Tuesday (my planned schedule). I am in Healdsburg California, which is directly in the middle of the Northern California fires. We have the Santa Rosa Tubbs fire to the south, and the Geyserville Pocket Fire to the north so it’s been an interesting few days. Wifi and cell service were down for a couple days, and I was busy helping evacuate students from the school, so this was not a priority (sorry!).
I’m currently sitting in a coffee shop in Ukiah (Black Oak Coffee, to be exact. It is delicious.), as Ukiah is the safe zone we designated for the kids at the school, and I snuck away to get coffee and write a blog post (do I sound hipster yet?).
Anyway, I hope to get some photos of the fire damage after things calm down, and will hopefully be able to post about that in a couple weeks. Until then, here’s a photo I took back in 2011 or something crazy like that.
Week Two
Image Title: Jumping
Camera: Canon Powershot
Aperture: 2.8
Exposure: 1/20
Throwback time! This photo was taken several years ago—before I really got a good camera, or got into photography on a more professional level—at the beach in Clearwater, Florida. We were visiting for a vacation / work conference for my dad. Devin (my cousin, for those of you who didn’t read my earlier post about the farm) had never seen the ocean, so we brought him along, and he is pictured here, jumping off of a lifeguard stand on the beach at sunset.
Reasons I like this Photo:
- Motion Blur! Who doesn’t love some motion blur—it has so much potential and can be so moody (I love moody stuff).
- The colors in this photo are all pastel, muted and soft—there’s not a lot that stands out harshly, giving it a calmer feel.
- The sun has just set, so there’s not any harsh light or shadows, and the sky is a nice color.
- I added in a little bit of haze in Photoshop to increase the pastel and soft feeling to the photo
